MILLER IS KILLED IN FALL Oil Company Employe Loses Life In Fall Down Iron Stairs Emmett Edward Miller, 37, assistant superintendent of the Standard Oil Company plant near Sewells Point, was killed in a fall yesterday morning on the steel stairway leading to the top of one of the company's petroleum tanks. He sustained a badly fractured skull in the fall. How Mr. Miller happened to fall, Detective Leon Nowitzky, coroner's investigator, was unable to determine. He said he believed Miller in some manner fell, hitting his head against one of the steps. He believed this blow knocked him unconscious and that he fell to the bottom of the steps, hitting his head on the way down. The body was found about 7:30 o'clock by a fellow employe, resting against the stairway in an upright position. Mr. Miller had been assistant superintendent of the plant for nine years. He was a native of Norfolk and had lived here all his life. He was the son of the late Capt. William and Mrs. Mary Lane Miller and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Runion Miller; three brothers, William Miller, South Norfolk; Grover Miller, Roanoke and Max Miller, Norfolk County. He was a member of Dupont Lodge No. 289, A.F. & A.M., of Hopewell; Charity Lodge, K. of P. and Ziyad Temple, D.O.K.K. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox, 124 East Berkley avenue. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
