MILLER Prominent and Highly Respected Citizen Passes Away Mr. Marcellus Miller, a prominent citizen, died Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his residence, corner of Berkley avenue and Main street, after an illness of about three months. He was 51 years of age and leaves a widow and five children; also a sister, Mrs. Thomas Tilley, of this city. Mr. Miller was a most estimable gentleman, having many admirable qualities. He was conservative but firm in his convictions, and justice and right were always pre-eminent in his life. He was born in Norfolk County April 2, 1849 and graduated in the University Law School of Philadelphia and practiced at the bar in Philadelphia a long term of years, until, owing to failing health, he came south. In 1877 he settled in Berkley and became an active and enterprising citizen. He was the originator of the building and loan move in the town, which has grown to be an inseparable organization in the town's progress. He also represented the town in the Council for a long term of years, during which time he faithfully served its best interest. He was at the head of the ship brokerage firm of M. Miller & Co., of Norfolk. This firm is the oldest in the business in that city, it having been in existence over twenty-two years. He was an esteemed member of Berkley Lodge No. 16, A.F.& A.M. and Lee Lodge No. 48, K. of P. The funeral will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock by Revs. W.A. Slaymaker and T.C. Skinner, after which his remains will be interred in Magnolia Cemetery.
