ELOISE I. MINOR PASSES PEACEFULLY AWAY AT HER HOME. Mrs. Eloise I. Minor departed this life at her residence, No. 98 Holt street, at 3:15 a.m. yesterday, after a brief illness, in the 84th year of her age. In her death, this community has lost one of those heroic characters which have distinguished the history of Norfolk. She was the widow of the late Dr. Lewis W. Minor, who was a fleet surgeon in the United States Navy, but, during the war between the North and South, he accepted and held the position of surgeon in the Confederate States Navy. During the prevalence of the yellow fever in Norfolk and Portsmouth, he was stationed at the Naval Hospital and was universally esteemed in this section for his many kindly offices to the people during that fearful plague. Mrs. Minor was almost an historic figure in Norfolk, known by many and known of by all. She passed her days in that quiet and dignified way which made her an example of sincere and noble Christian character. Her nature was cast in that mold which has made true, pure, compassionate womanhood one of the highest expressions of the Christian religion. Her husband and son, Dr. Lewis Minor, and daughter, Mrs. William H. White, all died in Norfolk, leaving Mrs. Minor with no near kindred in Virginia, except her grandchildren, the daughter and son of Mr. Wm. H. White, of this city; Mrs. Eloise I. Hinton, of Petersburg, and Dr. L. H. Landon White, of the Polyclinic Hospital, New York. Mrs. Minor was Miss Innerarity, of Mobile, Ala. She was a devout communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic church, from which her funeral will take place at 11 o’clock this morning.
