Mr. John Francis Minter, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Lambert's 
Point, died at the residence of  his son, Mr. J. Frank Minter, on Lawrence 
Avenue, at 5:55 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after an illness that confined him 
to his home for a period of three months. The deceased suffered much during his 
sickness, but bore his affliction with heroic fortitude and Christian 
resignation. He lived to rear a large family of children, of whom any father 
might well be proud of, and they are seven in number--four sons and three daughters
daughters--all of whom survive him. They are Messrs. W. A. Minter, Charles E. 
Minter, Harry T. Minter, J. Frank Minter and Mrs. S. D. Hope, Mrs. Alexander 
Warren and Mrs. Eugene Callis, most of whom were with him and administered to 
him during his last hours on earth to soothe the dull, cold ear of death. In 
the death of Mr. Minter the community in which he resided, as well as Norfolk, 
his former home, has lost a valuable citizen. He was a man of unswerving 
integrity and of generous and noble impulses, which coupled with his beautiful
Christian character, illustrated and adorned his life. He was for a long period 
of years a member of Colley Memorial Presbyterian Church, and at the time of 
his demise held the office of elder in the church. "Like a ripe shock ready for 
the reaper he has been gathered into the garner." His funeral will take place 
from Colley Memorial Church tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock.
