Funeral services for Joseph Mitchell Jr., 22, of 1264 Courtney street, who met 
death by drowning at Craney Island on Monday, Sept. 6, were held Sunday, Sept. 
26 at Hale’s Funeral Chapel with the Rev. E. W. Williams officiating. A native 
of Windsor, NC, the deceased had lived in Norfolk for the past ten years and 
was employed in the Norfolk Navy Yard. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
