VIRGINIA BEACH - Shirley Mitchell of 5641 Woodruff Circle, a native of Norfolk, died
Wednesday in a hospital.

Mrs. Mitchell was a manager at the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. She
had worked there for 20 years. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, its
trustee board, women's guild and pastor's anniversary committee. She was a member of
the Players Guild of Norfolk and the Pokeno Bugs Social and Savings Club.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Mitchell; a daughter, Karen Branch of Virginia
Beach; a sister, Ruth Stiff of Portsmouth; a brother, Willie James of Chesapeake;
and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Calvary Baptist Church by
Dr. J.L. White Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in
charge.

The family will assemble at the residence. The body will be placed in the church at
11 a.m. Saturday.
