Mitchell, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great- great-grandmother, of the 2600 block of Chesapeake Blvd., was called home to be with the Lord Jan. 12, 2002. Rona was a dedicated member of Gideon's Riverside Fellowship and a past member of New Calvary Baptist Church. She was a deaconess, a member of the Pastor's Aid, an honorary usher and member of the Golden Age Club. She was also a former member of the Salvation Army Home League and the Norfolk State University Brambleton Center Senior Citizen's Club. She was predeceased by her husband, David Mitchell Sr.; her mother, Elnora Collins-Emmanuel; her brother, Elijah Collins; her son, Herman E. Mitchell; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She is survived by seven children, Audrey M. Shands of Virginia Beach, David Mitchell Jr. of Bridgeport, Conn., Bernadine R. Marshall of Norfolk, Moses N. Mitchell of Norfolk, Daniel E. Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nev., Maurice C. Mitchell of Norfolk and Linda D. Mitchell of Norfolk; two daughters-in-law, Jeanette Mitchell of Chesapeake and Eulynda Mitchell of Las Vegas; a godchild, Wanda Rivers of Norfolk; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; and a very special cousin, Ester Mitchell; as well as many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at First Church of Christ Holiness, 862 Princess Anne Road, by Senior Pastor Clyde Doxey Jr. of Gideon's Riverside Fellowship. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery . Family and friends will assemble at 2600 Chesapeake Blvd. at 11 a.m. Thursday for the procession. The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on the day of the service. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.
