The Norfolk native was the wife of John Edward Mitchell, and a daughter of Mrs. Sallie McPherson and the late Hannable McPherson. Survivors are five sons, John Edward Mitchell Jr., a Navy petty officer of Jacksonville, Fl, Marine PFC Robert Lee Mitchell of Norfolk Naval Base; Herbert Maurice Mitchell of Portsmouth ; Alton Mitchell and Albert Louis Mitchell of Portsmouth; and two sisters, Mrs. Rosa M. Griffin of the Bronx and Mrs. Hazel Weldon of Portsmouth. The services were conducted by the Rev. E. W. Davidson, Mrs. James Spivey read the family papers and acknowledgements. Honorary pallbearers were William Anderson, William Pope and Willie C. Jones. Active pallbearers were Leroy W. Wingfield, Clarence Christian, Willie Carey Jones, James Clarke, Edwin Crocker and Willie Jackson. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk, with Rodgers Funeral Home in charge.
