On April 18, 2003, Frances M. Mitchell, 93, departed this earthly life and went 
home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She never hesitated to let 
you know that she loved the Lord, whether you liked it or not. 

Born in Lamberts Point on Dec. 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late James 
and Ella Thornton. She was predeceased by her husband, Roosevelt Mitchell; her 
daughter, Clarise Knockett; brothers, Clyde, William, Timothy, Junious and James 
Thornton; and her sisters, Thelma and Julene Thornton and Ella Hyman. 

She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Hodges and Versary Norman and husband 
Fred; her brother, Roland Thornton and wife Bessie; granddaughter, Debra 
Richardson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandsons, Ronald Knockett of Sterling, Va. and 
Edward, Samuel, Terry and Michael Knockett all of Norfolk; and a host of nieces 
and nephews. 

Mrs. Mitchell's homegoing service will be on Tuesday at noon in Norfolk 
Deliverance Center, 1045 Ave. E, Norfolk, with the Rev. Kenneth Flythe 
presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery . A celebration of her life 
will be held at Braywood Manor following the burial. Family and friends will 
gather Monday at 7 p.m. at Norfolk Deliverance Center to remember Mrs. Mitchell.
