Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, May 27, 1999 
Johnny Ellsworth Mitchell of Norfolk went home to be with the Lord on May
25,1999, after an extended illness.

He was a native of Portsmouth and a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School. He
attended Norfolk Division of Virginia State College and retired from the U.S.
Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist
Church.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Naomi G. Mitchell; two daughters, Carol J.
Monroe and her husband, Louis Monroe, of Detroit, Mich., Valerie M. Smith and
her husband, the Rev. Edward Smith of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Amber T.
Smith; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Mitchell; a brother, Curtis
Mitchell; two sisters, Verna Mitchell Peterson and Gloria Mitchell Conway.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 718
Tidewater Drive, with the Rev. H. Carlyle Church officiating. Interment will be
in Calvary Cemetery . Riddick Funeral Home is in charge
