Surrounded by cherished family, Charles Smenner Montagna, known to all as Chuck, 
passed from this earth on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Born on February 14, 
1941, to his loving parents, Julius and Gypsy, Chuck spent his formative years 
in the family's shoe store business, learning the basics of serving the public, 
skills that aided him in his education at Granby High School, and then at Old 
Dominion College, where he graduated in 1963 and met the love of his life, 
Garnett Dawson. Chuck and Garnett were married in 1964 and soon thereafter, 
Chuck graduated from the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of 
Richmond in 1966.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, his two children, Marcella King (Darren) 
and Jon Montagna (Elizabeth). Together, Chuck and Garnett faced all of life's 
challenges through 60 years, raising their two children, living a contented life 
together, and finally, only earlier this year, retiring from their work as the 
founding partner and the office manager, respectively, of the Montagna Law Firm. 
He is also survived by his pride and joy, grandsons Dawson and Vincent Montagna 
and granddaughter Chloe King; and his wife's stepbrother Lee Wilder, and 
stepsisters, Lynda and Elaine Wilder, whom he dearly loved and cherished.
A visitation with the family will occur on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at H.D. 
Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Avenue from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The funeral 
will be a private service at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. For the extended
