Our beloved Lori left this world surrounded by her loving family and an abundance of love. Lori was born in Infanta, Pangasinan, Philippines to the late Mariano Romero and Conrada Abadam Magalindan. Lori was raised in a family grounded in community, compassion, service and hard work. Mariano owned a rice mill, and Conrada was a dedicated schoolteacher who instilled in her children the importance of putting God first and caring for others. Lori was preceded in death by her cherished son, Jose Monge Montano, Jr. Lori is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Jose (Joe) Monge Montano, their children, Amelia (Amy), Montano and her son Ryan, Benjamin Montano, his wife Loretta Lane-Montano and their son Noah, her sisters Carmelita Cruz, Edita Tabones, Filomena Green, and Sylvia Mendoza; along with 11 nephews, 13 nieces and many dear friends. She was also preceded in death by siblings Erlinda Mores, Zenaida Gamao, and Manuel Magalindan. Lori graduated from the University of the Philippines School of Nursing, class of 1960. In 1961, she was recruited to come to work as a nurse in the United States. Lori crossed the Pacific Ocean to America and first arrived in Galveston, TX. Later she transferred to Chicago IL to work. Lori returned to the Philippines and during her visit she met her loving husband to be. On June 14th, 1965, Lori was married to Jose M. Montano, USN Retired. This past June, Lori and Joe celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Throughout her life, Lori exemplified devotion through her faith and a deep connection to her Filipino heritage. Joe and Lori registered as parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church in 1970. Lori served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the parish council, and a founding member of the Fil-Am Ministry. Her children attended St. Pius X Catholic School. Along with her peers, she was instrumental in bringing the first Santo Nino Novena Fiesta (1983) to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Through her tireless efforts and tenacity, Lori actively helped raise funds for building the San Lorenzo Spiritual Center. As a member of the Pangasinan Association of Virginia, Lori’s deep faith was reflected in her involvement with the Our Lady of Manaog Novena and Fiesta, Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Lori was an active member of the University of the Philippines Nursing Alumni Association International. She was a member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Virginia (PNAVA). Lori was also a proud advocate of Filipino American grassroots organizations like the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA). She encouraged civic participation and voting. Lori's career as an OB Registered Nurse spanned over 3 decades, starting at Portsmouth General Hospital in 1973; then she joined De Paul Hospital in 1976 where she served faithfully until her retirement in 2012. Lori's gentle care as a nurse and loving presence touched countless lives. She was known for her profound compassion, kindness, and openness. Her unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith was a constant source of strength throughout her life. Above all, her constant love for her family and generous spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She demonstrated her commitment to her family by using her earnings to support her siblings' higher education in the Philippines. Her loving family and friends will miss her dearly. Though her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, her spirit lives on in the love she shared. Visitation will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Chapel, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA, from 5 PM to 9 PM, on Thursday - Friday, July 17 - 18, 2025. There will be a rosary both nights at 5:30 PM. The Wake Liturgy will be on Friday, July 18 at 6 PM. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Dr, Norfolk VA, at 11 AM Saturday, July 19, 2025, followed by the burial at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church St., Norfolk, VA.
