MOORE, JR., WAR CASUALTY, REBURIED HERE Staff Sergeant Killed in Flight Over India; Private Rites at Grave Private funeral services for Staff Sgt. Charles Herbert Moore, Jr., USA, 23, were conducted at the grave in Elmwood Cemetery yesterday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. John R. Hendricks, pastor of Colonial Avenue Methodist Church. Sergeant Moore was killed in a plane crash in India October 9, 1944. A native of Norfolk, he moved to Atlanta in 1929 when his father became vice president of the Atlanta division of Colonial Stores, Inc., returning to Norfolk with his family upon his father's death. He was graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1942 and entered the Army in September, 1942. He was a member of the 258th Fighter Squadron, 311th Fighter Group. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Gertrude M. Moore, of 1009 Brandon Avenue; a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Virginia Hutchins, of Norfolk; his maternal grandparents, John E. and Lulla C. Murphy, Princess Anne County, and his paternal grandfather, U. Frank Moore, of Great Falls, S.C.
