Virginia FH Notices and Obituaries September 24, 2024
Margaret (Marty) White Moore went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2024. 
Marty was a long-time resident of Norfolk, VA, and Manteo, NC, and most recently 
Charleston, SC, where she had moved to be near her family. Marty grew up in 
Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School in 1960, and attended Longwood 
University, where she earned a BS in Education in 1964. Marty had a zeal for 
life and adventure which she shared with family and friends. Anyone who knew 
Marty understood that her faith in Jesus Christ was first and foremost to her. 
Marty was born August 16, 1942, the daughter of Edward Lee White and Margaret 
Upton White of Norfolk. Her maternal grandparents were John Upton and Pearl 
Backus Upton of Norfolk; paternal grandparents were Joseph Nelson White and Mary 
Cory White of Norfolk. Marty is survived by her only sibling Edward (Woody) Lee 
White, Jr., and his wife Virginia White of Atlanta; her two nieces- Moriah Upton 
White of Charleston, Christen White Reese and husband David Reese of Charleston; 
cousins- Jane Upton Schmookler, Carol Upton Crane and Nancy Upton Cole of 
Connecticut; and many friends throughout her life. She was preceded in death by 
her former husband Dr. A. A. D. Moore. There will be a graveside service at 
Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, VA, at the family gravesite on Saturday, September 
28th at 2:00pm. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel is handling 
arrangements.
