Moore, 64, of 1208 Gates Avenue, president and organizer of the lumber firm bearing his name, and resident of Norfolk since 1920, died yesterday at 8:35 a.m. at a Norfolk hospital shortly after suffering a heart attack at home. His death was unexpected, since he had been at his lumber concern, at 38th Street and Hampton Boulevard, Thursday. A native of Wimbledon, Surrey, England, his late parents were Felix Caffyn and Mrs. Eliza Tindall Moore. Mr. Moore went to Canada in 1907, and, when World War I broke out, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served over-seas with the cavalry. He wore the military cross for valor in action. Founded Company In 1920, he came to Norfolk and soon went with the Blassingham Lumber Company, subsequently becoming its vice president and general manager. When the firm was dissolved in 1946, he organized his own company and became president. He was a member of Ghent Methodist Church, the American Legion and its 40 and 8, Norfolk Lodge 38, B. P. O. Elks, the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, the Isaak Walton League, the Norfolk-Portsmouth Traffic Club, the Norfolk Sports Club, the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, the Foreign Commerce Club and the Hampton Roads Maritime Association. Wedding Postponed The family yesterday announced postponement of the wedding of his daughter, Miss Eileen Conroy Moore, to George Coughlin, originally set for today at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The date will be set later. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lena Blassingham Moore; a second daughter, Miss Patricia Pringle Moore; two sons, Alfred George Moore, Jr., and Edward Tindall Moore, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren; two brothers, Charles H. Moore, of Surrey, England, and Harold A. Moore, of Canada; and one sister, Mrs. May Greatwood, of Surrey, England. The body was removed to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Arrangements were incomplete last night. MOORE, ALFRED GEORGE - On Friday, September 9, 1955, at 8:35 a.m., ALFRED GEORGE MOORE, husband of Mrs. Lena Blassingham Moore, and son of the late Felix Caffyn and Mrs. Eliza Tindall Moore, in the 65th year of his age. Remains will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, to the Ghent Methodist Church, for services MONDAY NOON, September 12, 1955, at 12 o’clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
