MORGAN Late Residence of Much Beloved Physician Could Not Accommodate Large Number Who Paid Respects One of the largest funerals that has taken place in Berkley ward for years was that of Dr. Francis Marion Morgan, which was conducted from his late residence in Main street yesterday afternoon, between 2 ad 3 o'clock. His late home was packed to overflowing and several hundred remained about the front of the residence during the services, who were unable to gain admittance, there being many present from Norfolk proper, Portsmouth and Elizabeth City and Moyock, N.C., a former home of the deceased. Dr. Morgan died Christmas morning at 12:15 o'clock after an illness of about a week. He was 62 years old. He was born in Currituck, N.C. and after attending the schools (in) his county graduated at the University of Virginia. He also graduated in medicine at the College for Physicians and Surgeons at Baltimore, Md. He entered upon the practice of medicine in Eastern North Carolina, his home. He also practiced during the latter part of the war in the Southern army. He moved to Berkley ward about twenty-five years ago, where he continued his practice until his recent illness. During his long experience in medicine he made many friends and enjoyed a lucrative practice. He always responded when called, whether the money was there to pay for the service or not. He was affable and courteous to every body and there are few men living in Berkley ward who possessed a larger number of friends. The deceased was married in 1870 to Miss Emily V. Black, daughter of the late John Black, a well known attorney of Elizabeth City, N.C. He is survived by two brothers, P.H. Morgan, of Shawboro, N.C. and Joseph W. Morgan, of Berkley; one sister, Mrs. T. Calhoon Sanderson, of Moyock, N.C.; two sons, John B. and Francis M. Morgan, Jr. and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur J. Lancaster. He was a member of St. Thomas P.E. Church. He was a member of Berkley Lodge 278 B.P.O. Elks, Berkley Aerie 795 F.O. Eagles, Berkley Ruling 1,119 Fraternal Mystic Circle and also held insurance in the New York Mutual and Georgia Mutual Life Insurance Companies. Rev. S.W. Cowling, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a member, officiated at the funeral and interment was in Magnolia Cemetery. The floral designs were numerous and beautiful. A wagon was necessary to convey the floral designs to the grave. Following were the pallbearers: Active - John M. Berkley, John T. Whitehurst, W.H. French, Leroy M. Lewis, H.B. Urquhart, C.H. Banks, George T. Tilley and George D. Parker. Honorary - Alvah H. Martin, W.W. Robertson, L. Berkley, H.I. Wicks, W.S. Rudd, W.S. Sykes, Drs. J.P. Jackson, J.A. Norfleet, F. Lawford and J.T.
