Virginian-Pilot June 17, 1924
Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Morphew, aged 43, died at the residence, 623 West Thirty-
seventh street, Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock. She is survived by her husband, 
Edward L. Morphew; two daughters, Misses Gertrude and Edna Smith, of Norfolk; one 
son, Stephen Smith, U.S.N.; one brother, Stephen Henderson, of Texas; four 
sisters, Mrs. James Foley and Mrs. William Habel, both of New York; and Mrs. John 
Madden and Mrs. Michael Reilly, both of Morristown, N.J. She was a native of 
Providence, R.I., and had been a resident of Norfolk for the past 20 years. 
Funeral services will be conducted at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 
tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
