He was a native of Plymouth, N.C., and the son of the late George and Christine Walker Morris. He was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples in Norfolk and a member and secretary of the Deacon board. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and was a Union Steward. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Ribbon. He retired after 30 years from Southern Materials as a driver. Survivors include two daughters, Alice L. Riddick of California and Deborah Coleman of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Thomas David Cross of Alabama and Johnnie Coley of Raleigh, N.C.; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a goddaughter; friends Mary Griffin, the Downing family, Mandy Sessoms, all the members of Teamsters Local (NU)22 and the members of Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples by Elder James Cherry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
