In some way, the details of which are not clearly known, M. R. R. Morris, a well-known auctioneer, fell from the trailer and one of the rear wheels ran over his left leg, crushing it from the knee down. He was at once put on the steamer Norfolk-on-the-Roads and brought to Norfolk as quickly as possible and taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, w where he was attended by Dr. Lynch, the surgeon of the Norfolk and Atlantic T Terminal Company, and Dr. Callahan. They found the injured limb in such a condition that amputation was necessary. Yesterday at 12:30 a.m. Drs. Lynch and Callahan amputated the leg above the knee. The right leg was uninjured except for a few slight bruises of no consequence. En route to Norfolk the patient was attended by Dr. Callahan, who happened to be at Norfolk-on-the Roads. When seen last night and asked for particulars of the case Dr. Lynch stated that yesterday at 10 a.m. Mr. Morris suffered a stroke and that he died of apoplexy at 5 p.m. It is stated that he carried an accident insurance policy of $5,000 and also $3,000 as a member of Pocahontas Council, Royal Areanum.
