Virginian-Pilot January 11, 1945
Joseph Nicholas Morton, Sr., aged 66 years, husband of Mrs. Nellie Parker 
Morton, and son of the late Peter and Mrs. Mary Pope Morton, a native of 
Portsmouth and a resident of Norfolk for 61 years, died at 12:40 o’clock 
yesterday morning at the residence, 656 May avenue. Besides his wife, Mrs. 
Nellie Parker Morton, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. L. Folios; three 
sons, Joseph N. Morton, Jr., Charles M. Morton and Nicholas Morton, and one 
brother, Peter Morton, all of Norfolk; nine grandchildren, and a number of 
nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for services tomorrow morning at 10 
o’clock. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be held 
at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tonight at 7:30 o’clock.
