The daughter of Andrew Thaddeus Harris Sr. and Hardenia Johnson Harris, she was born June 21, 1907, in Hanover County, Va. She attended school in Hanover for her primary education and then attended Hartshorn Memorial College in Richmond for her high school education. She attended Virginia Union University in Richmond and earned her bachelor of arts degree in 1931. Later, she earned her master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Her first teaching job was at Rich Square Institute in Rich Square, N.C. She taught there one year, 1933-34. On Oct. 20, 1934, she married Wendell Thurston Moseley. They were married for 58 years until his death Friday, Jan. 22, 1993. They lived in Charlottesville, Va., until the war occurred and then they moved to Norfolk. In the mid 1940s, Lucy started teaching elementary school in the Norfolk Public School System. Her longest tenure was at Bowling Park Elementary School, teaching the upper grades. Her retirement became effective Aug. 1, 1972. When Lucy and Wendell moved to Norfolk, she became a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and faithfully supported her church. The usher board was an important aspect of Lucy's service in her later years. Lucy Moseley, a golden soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., was an active member of Iota Omega Chapter, Norfolk. She pledged Alpha Eta Chapter, Virginia Union University in 1930. In her early years, she enjoyed attending the conferences. Although quiet and reserved, Lucy was friendly, kind, loyal and active. Bridge was one of her favorite activities. A wonderful cook and hostess, Lucy enjoyed entertaining in her home. A member of many social clubs, she served in many positions and never failed in any of her responsibilities. She is survived by her son, Wendell T. Moseley Jr. of Washington, D.C.; her daughter, Ernestine M. Glenn and son-in-law, Paul Glenn of Yonkers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Ditawa Nianda. Burial will be in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery . There will be a wake at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. The Alpa Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will come at 7 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday for the procession to the church.
