The Virginian Pilot Thursday July 24, 1958
Mrs. Mary Lamphier Murphy Moss, 84, wife of William W. Moss and daughter of 
William R. and Mrs. Anna Caldwell Murphy, died Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in a 
Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Moss was a native of Springfield, Pa., and had been a resident of 
Norfolk for 55 years, residing at 1132 Westmoreland Ave. at the time of her 
death. She was a member of the D.A.R. and of First Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, James A. Moss of 
Wallingford, Pa., Warrenton C. Moss of Washington and William Ward Moss Jr. 
of New Fairfield, Conn.; four daughters, Mrs. Samuel T. Northern of Norfolk, 
Mrs. Anna M. Brady of Rome, Italy, Mrs. Harry C. Whitmore of Yonkers, N.Y. 
and Mrs. J. Brentnall Powell of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren and 15 
great grandchildren.
The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Elmwood 
Cemetery for services at the grave today at 4 p.m. conducted by the Rev. 
Robert Hewitt, associate pastor and the Rev. Jason L. MacMillan, pastor 
emeritus of First Presbyterian Church. Friends have been requested by the 
family to omit flowers.
