He was a native of Danville and had made his home in Norfolk 30 years. He was engaged in the furniture business. He was a son of the late Samuel Thomas and Mrs. Agnes Hampton Motley. Surviving him are a stepson, James M. Brown, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Addie Reynolds, and two brothers, George W. and Samuel H. Motley, all of Danville. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Berkley. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the grave in Magnolia Cemetery.
