Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday January 17, 1948
Joseph Routten Murphy, 56, son of the late William J. and Mrs. Anne 
Elizabeth Brown Murphy, a native of Princess Anne County, died at the 
residence, 241 East Forty-first Street, Thursday at 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Erma Alexander Murphy; one daughter, Mrs. 
Gwendolyn Murphy Brahm; a grandson, Russell Nash Brahm, both of Norfolk; one 
brother, the Rev. W.L. Murphy, of Oceana; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Bonney, of 
Norfolk, and Mrs. Lillian Murphy Nunn, of Virginian Beach.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.
