Norfolk Virginian Pilot Friday June 13, 1947
Arthur Jones Murphy, 79, husband of Lilye C. Murphy, died at a local 
hospital yesterday at 2:30 p.m.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maywood B. Sykes and 
Mrs. C.E. Kenworthy and five nieces, Mrs. Dorothy Patree Garvey, Misses 
Gertrude and Gwendolyn Carroll, Mrs. Leon Bolton and Mrs. James Nicholson, 
all of Norfolk.
He was a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., and had been a resident of Norfolk 
most of his life.  He was a member of the Church of the Advent, Corinthian 
Lodge No 266, A.F. & A.M., Norfolk Council No. 2, Jr. O.U.A.M., and was a 
safety engineer for the U.S. Casualty Company.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home 
Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
