NORFOLK - Sherman Lee Murphy, 56, of 8860 Brighton Road died in a hospital 
Friday at 12:53 a.m.
A native of Virginia Beach, he was a lifetime resident of this area, a son of 
Mrs. Alice Davis Murphy of Norfolk and the late William Murphy, and the 
husband of Mrs. Barbara S. Murphy.
He was a member of American Legion Post 60 and was employed 27 years by Curtis-
Bay Towing Co. of Virginia.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving, besides his wife and mother are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Alden 
Colley Jr. of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Robert Yates, of Chesapeake; a son, 
Vernon L. Murphy of Camp LeJeune, N.C. and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in Smith & Williams Funeral Home Monday at 11 
a.m. by the Rev. Meredith Garrett.  Burial will be in Riverside Memorial 
Park.  
The family will be at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
