Retired Navy CPO John Joseph Murphy, 64, of 8507 Carlton Ave., died Saturday in 
a hospital.
A native of Patterson, N.J., he was the husband of Mrs. Yvonne Virginia Allen 
Murphy.  He retired from the Navy in 1957 after 24 years and from the 
Department of Defense in 1973 after 16 years.  He was a Navy veteran of World 
War II and the Korean War.  He was a member of Bayview Civic Club and a 
delegate to the 2nd District Republican Convention.
Besides his widow, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Lillian Jones 
of Portsmouth and Mrs. Gail Eugenia Powers and Mrs. Catherine Eileen Owens, 
both of Norfolk; a brother, Dr. George Murphy of Saddle River, N.J.; nine 
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 
Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Dr. William L. Lumpkin.  Burial will be in Riverside 
Memorial Park.
