He was a native of Kerry, Ireland, but had made his home in this city for the past four years during which time he worked on several ships. According to Detective Leon Nowitsky, coroner’s investigator, Murphy was identified by a clerk at the Seaman’s Bethel, where he had stopped several times. A slip was found in his pocket showing that he had baggage checked at the Bethel. Detective Nowitzky went there, but found the baggage consisted of an empty handbag. The clerk was asked to look at the body and after doing so, told the detective he was positive the body was that of Murphy. Murphy was arrested shortly after noon Wednesday. His condition was such that he was unable to give his name or any information concerning himself. He was placed in the cell and about nine hours later was found dead by the desk sergeant. His death was attributed to heart trouble brought about by alcoholism, by Dr. C. D. J. Macdonald, city coroner, who examined the body. Funeral services for the man will be conducted tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock at the Gregory Funeral Home, Thirty-fourth and Granby streets. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Detective Nowitzky announced that, in the meantime, an effort is being made to locate relatives of the dead man.
