All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Robert Woolfitt http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00034.html#0008401 September 19, 2023, 4:06 pm Virginian-Pilot November 19, 1958 NORFOLK — Charles Emmett (Spud) Murphy, 55, husband of Mrs. Grace Flemming Murphy and son of the late Thomas and Maria Gallegher Murphy, died at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Monday at 4:15 p.m. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Miss Rose Marie Murphy and Miss Doreen E. Murphy; two sons, Charles T. Murphy and Forrest E. Murphy, all of Norfolk; two brothers, Paul M. Murphy, and Erin Murphy, both of Soco, Me., and three grandchildren. Mr. Murphy was a native of Soco and had been a resident of Norfolk for 25 years, residing at 405 Westover Ave. He was a veteran of World War II and member of the Fleet Reserve Branch. He served 25 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1954. Since that time, he had been in the employ of Forrest & Dunn Marine Railway. The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for funeral services Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be at the funeral home today at 7:30 p.m., after which the members of the Fleet Reserve will conduct services.
