Virginian-Pilot January 24, 1943
William Hope Murphy, aged 79, husband of Mrs. Annie Cuemener Murphy, and son of 
the late Mathew and Mrs. Margaret Catherine Hope Murphy, died at a local 
hospital yesterday afternoon at 3:36 o’clock.
Mr. Murphy was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, residing at 736 West 
Thirty-fifth street at the time of his death. Besides his wife, Mrs. Annie 
Cuemener Murphy, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph M. Clark and Mrs. 
Donald M. Love, Jr., and one grandson, Donald M. Love, III, all of Norfolk; two 
sisters, Mrs. Margaret Taylor, of Richmond, and Mrs. Florence Brodie, of 
Washington, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial 
avenue, to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, of which Mr. Murphy was a member, 
for funeral services tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock. Burial will be in St. 
Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments tonight at 7 o’clock.
