Murphy, 79, of the 5100 block of Richard Road, passed away Dec. 31, 2006. She was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Norfolk and was educated in the Norfolk public school system. She was a member of New Hope Church of Deliverance, Norfolk, where she served as mother of the church and a counselor to young women of the church. She retired from Norfolk State University where she served 37 years in food service. She was also active in Norfolk State University Spartan Boosters organization for many years where she served as treasurer and hosted many fundraising events. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Clement L. Murphy Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Olga C. Armstrong, the Rev. Deborah Lewis (John), both of Chesapeake, Barbara M. White (Gordon) of Hampton, Cynthia Phillips of Atlanta and Pamela Wilson (Marvin) of Virginia Beach; three sons, the Rev. Clement L. Murphy Jr. (Evelyn), Toye Murphy (Janet) and Ira D. Murphy, all of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Patricia M. McPherson of Chesapeake; 21 grandchildren, Tamara Armstrong, Milford Armstrong Jr., Kenneth Armstrong, John E. Lewis Jr., M.D., Timothy M. Lewis, Toye Murphy Jr., Tyree Murphy, Elijah Murphy, Delvina Brown, Vanita Brown, April Brown, Sherrian J. Banks, Clement L. Murphy III, Christopher L. Murphy, Sabrina Williams, Raequi Wilson, Marlon Wilson, Marchavis Wilson, Brandon Clark, Adryanne Phillips and Byron Phillips; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. Bishop Earl C. Hinton Sr. will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk.
