Kenton Lawrence “Buddy” Murray, Jr., 91, died peacefully December 29, 2023. He 
was born in Norfolk, Virginia, December 5, 1932, to the late Kenton L. Murray 
and Veronica McGonagle Murray. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 
fifty years, Elsie Smith Murray, his son, Terry Steven Murray, and his two 
sisters, Veronica Anne Murray and Ellen Murray Callahan. He is survived by his 
brother, Richard Tyler Murray and his wife, Jeanne, of Newark, Delaware. Also 
left to cherish his memory are many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. 
Buddy attended Holy Trinity School in Norfolk, Virginia. He was employed by A&P 
grocery chain for over forty years. He grew up in Willoughby Spit and was later 
a member of the Democratic Club of Ocean View. He enjoyed tending to his well-
manicured lawn and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Buddy took great pleasure in 
entertaining his family singing his rendition of “Down by the Riverside.” A 
private graveside burial was held January 9, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic 
Cemetery in Norfolk, Virgina. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home handled arrangements.
