J. Murray came as a terrible shock to his numerous friends yesterday afternoon. Many did not know Mr. Murray was ever ill, but shortly after 3:30 o’clock he died, surrounded by heart-broken loved ones. Mr. Murray had been in bad health for several months and was taken ill on his way home yesterday afternoon. His sudden death is attributed to the debilitating effects of the excessively hot weather. The deceased was well known in hotel and restaurant circles, having at one time been proprietor of the St. James Hotel, Petersburg, and later was proprietor of the Gladstone Hotel, in this city. At the time of his death, Mr. Murray was employed by Mr. James Jones, of the Welcome Restaurant. The deceased was an Elk, a member of the Catholic Knights and Royal Arcanum. He leaves a widow, a daughter of Mr. Patrick White, of this city, but no children. Mr. Murray was a generous and warm-hearted gentleman and his death will be lamented by a large circle of friends. The funeral will take place from St. Mary’s Catholic Church tomorrow morning at 9:30 o’clock.
