Myers, died last evening at the home of his son-in-law, Adolph Brandt, No. 144 Duke Street, in the 90th year of his age. The deceased was a native of Amsterdam, Holland, but had resided in this country for seventy years, most of the time in this vicinity. He was formerly a prominent citizen of Portsmouth and served as president of its City Council for several terms. He has also lived in New York and made his home latterly with his daughter, Mrs. Brandt in this city. Until recently he was one of the best preserved men of his age in all of this country, probably evincing wonderful vigor and activity, both in mind and body. He took great interest in the affairs of the world generally, and was a delightful conversationalist, being thoroughly informed on local and national history for many years back rendering association with him intensely interesting, especially from a reminiscent point of view. He was a man of striking and pleasing personality, being exceptionally refined both in attire and in his manor. He was of sterling integrity, and was greatly esteemed throughout this section. He had traveled extensively, having visited nearly all parts of the world. He is survived by ten children, five sons and five daughters, most of whom reside in New York. He also leaves twenty-seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A few weeks ago he began to fall and declined rapidly, his death occurring at 9 o’clock last evening from old age. He was a member of Ohef Sholom Congregation in this city., the rabbi of which, Rev. dr. L.D. Mendoza will conduct the obsequies Sunday morning at 11 o’clock from the Brandt residence on Duke Street. The surviving children of the deceased are: Mrs. Adolph Brandt, of Norfolk; Mrs. I.W. Jackson, of New London, Conn.; E.J., J.J., H.E., M.L., and B.J. Myers and Mrs. J. Frank, Mrs. S.J. Sewell and Mrs. R. Leopold, all of New York. The grandchildren resident here are Maurice A. Brandt, Harry M. Brandt, and Mrs. M. Hofflin. The following children of the deceased have arrived here: E.J. Myers and Mrs. J. Frank Myers, of New York, and Mrs. I.W. Jackson of New London, Conn. Others will arrive tomorrow.
