Born in Baltimore, Maryland, as the oldest child of a Navy veteran, she spent her childhood years traveling around the continental United States. Barbara was married for 44 years to her beloved husband, Jim, who preceded her in death. Their livelihood was pursuing the “Great American Dream” in retail business as the owners of White’s Home & Auto Store in Tappahannock. Their success would not have been possible without the support of their beloved Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck communities. Barbara’s priority was always her family. She had the patience of a saint, which was needed being married to “Big Jim” and raising her two boys. She was the foundation and “rock” of her family, modeling the behavior that would mold her two sons and beloved grandchildren, as well as her two goddaughters, Alison and Erin Finger, and godgranddaughter, Ellie. When Barbara was not boating with Jim, she enjoyed gardening, reading, and watching Hallmark movies. She shared her artistic skills by painting the things she cherished the most, including southwest scenery, angels, and “rivah” scenery. She was extremely devoted to the Lord and her Catholicism. As a devoted member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, she was extremely involved in the parish for more than 45 years. The family offers their sincere gratitude for the compassionate and loving care that Barbara received from the staff and volunteers at Westminster Canterbury Richmond for the last five months and is especially grateful for the connection she made with Rev. Brad Brodeur. She is survived by her two loving sons, Michael A. Nannery (Stacey) and Patrick C. Nannery (Jenny); grandson, Colin; granddaughters, Dana, Madison, and Meredith; brothers, William and George Selig; and sister, Theresa Berens. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nannery; parents, Charles and Pauline Selig; and brother, John Selig. A funeral mass will be held for Barbara at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 413 Saint Timothy Lane, Tappahannock, Virginia, on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive guests at the church at 10:30 a.m., before the funeral. As there will not be an immediate graveside service, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Barbara’s name to St. Timothy’s Catholic Church Human Needs Fund, P.O. Box 129, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.
