Rick was born in Norfolk, Va.; lived in Virginia Beach, Va. and Baltimore, Md., then moved to Crofton, Md., where he enjoyed his early years playing soccer and lacrosse before graduating from Arundel High School. He moved back to Virginia Beach and attended Old Dominion University. In 1990, he was accepted and graduated from the US Army Flight School. He was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, as a trained Blackhawk helicopter pilot and he was selected to fly Commanding General John N. Abrams and received The Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding meritorious service as UH-60 pilot for the V Corp Commanding General. Rick repeatedly deployed to Hungary and Bosnia in support of V Corp Commander's numerous deployments. During this time he flew over 40 hours of imminent danger time while operating in the hazardous duty of the former Yugoslavia. Also, Rick was the assigned Blackhawk pilot for then Vice President Al Gore while serving in support of the 50 year Commemoration of D- day. Upon returning to Virginia Beach from Germany, Rick went to work in the family business, Preferred Direct Marketing Services, where he quickly became the General Manager. Business development was his passion. Rick has been described as outgoing, charming, fearless and stubborn as hell. He could talk to anyone about anything. He had the inherent skills, determination and flexibility to get the job done. His unselfish generosity was legendary. He loomed large in our lives, and he is going to be sorely missed. Surviving Rick are his mother Patricia D. Nee and father William D. Nee and his two brothers, William D. Nee Jr., and his son, Matthew of Virginia Beach, Va. and Christopher John Nee of Charlotte, NC, and his wife, Julie Anne Nee, and their daughter, Caitlyn, and son, Ryan, Rick's fiancée Carolyn Duffy of Virginia Beach Va., and many other family members. Not to be left out is his faithful German shepherd, "Teddy," who looks for him every day. We will honor Rick's memory in a memorial service to be held Friday, January 22nd, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home (2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Va.) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
