Virginian-Pilot September 26, 1961
SOUTH NORFOLK - Mrs. Shirley Newman, 68, of Rodgers Street, died in a Norfolk 
nursing home Monday at 9 a.m.
A native of Lexington, Ky., she lived here nine years and was a member of St. Pius 
X Catholic Church. She was the widow of Allen Newman.
A son, Wallace Smith, of Baltimore, survives.
The body was taken to Francis A. Gay Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 
conducted in Pius X Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. with burial in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery.
