The Virginian-Pilot, Thursday, August 29, 1974

NORFOLK - Mrs. Mearlena Newsome of 613 Landing St., wife of Earl Newsome Sr., 
died Wednesday in a hospital.

A native of Columbus, Ga., she was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute 
Street.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Peterson; a son, Earl Newsome 
Jr.; and a brother, Edward L. Turner, all of Norfolk; four grandchildren; and a 
great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Bute 
Street, by the Rev. E. Paul Simms. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves 
Funeral Home has charge.
