NORFOLK - Helen C. Newsome of the 3400 block of Colonial Ave. died March 8, 
2006, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Henderson, N.C., she was 
the widow of Ishiah Newsome and a member of St. Mark RZUA Church, where she was 
a member of the Usher Board, a nurse of the church and a nursery attendant. 

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Jefferson and husband Oakley; a son, 
George T. Winslow Jr., all of Norfolk; a sister, Addie Louise Ruffin and husband 
Reginald Sr. of Portsmouth; a brother, Leonard Mangum Jr. of Minnesota; five 
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and 
friends. She was predeceased by a special friend, Johnny Mercer. 

A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in St. Mark RZUA Church by the Rev. 
Alvin Ben Thomas. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The remains will be ready 
for viewing Tuesday from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at 3069 S. 
Lakebridge Drive at 11 a.m. for the procession. The remains will be taken to the 
church at 10 a.m. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Homes, Norfolk chapel, is in charge.
