Virginian-Pilot July 11 & 12, 1940
Mrs. Mary Fantone Newstead, aged 77, wife of William M. Newstead, and daughter 
of the late Peter and Mrs. Martha Ann Rutt Fantone, died at the residence, 830 
Maltby avenue, last night at 8:45 o’clock. Mrs. Newstead was a native and life-
long resident of Norfolk, and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Besides 
her husband, she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The body was 
taken to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, pending 
arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Fantone Newstead - Remains of Mrs. Newstead, wife of William M. 
Newstead, whose death occurred Wednesday night at the residence, 830 Maltby 
avenue, will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial 
avenue, to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for services tomorrow morning at 10 
o’clock. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be held 
at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, tonight at 8 o’clock.
