Virginian-Pilot December 27, 1914
William Newstead, a well-known retired merchant tailor of Norfolk, died at 11 
o’clock yesterday morning at the residence of his son-in-law, Stephen Hogan, 723 
Yarmouth street. Mr. Newstead was 88 years old. He was born in England but had 
lived in Norfolk more than seventy years and was highly regarded here. He leaves 
two daughters, Mrs. George Hogan and Mrs. Stephen Hogan, and a son, William M. 
Newstead, all of Norfolk. The funeral will take place at 10 o’clock tomorrow 
morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic church. The interment will be private in St. 
Mary’s cemetery.
