Bernard, known to all as "Uncle Bernie" or "Mr. Nick," was born April 16, 1912, to the late Jeffrey and Maggie Nichols in Norfolk. Bernard graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1930 and worked for more than 14 years at Norfolk State University as a food service handler until retiring. He was a faithful member of New Macedonia United Christian Church where he sang in the choir. Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Bernard R. Williams; one brother, Robert Elmo Nichols (Lena); 16 nieces and nephews; 29 great-nieces and -nephews; 25 great-greatnieces and -nephews; and a host of other relatives, coworkers and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in New Macedonia United Christian Church, 1426 Marshall Ave., Norfolk. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 6586 Stoney Point South one hour prior to service for the procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby Street, is in charge.
