Mr. Nichols was born in Norfolk and was a Baptist. Survivors include his mother, Olethia D. Nichols, of Norfolk; five sisters, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Roberta N. Covin, and her husband, Jimmy, of Hinesville, Ga., Rita Parker, and her husband, Michael, of Connecticut, Patricia Nichols and Darnell of Norfolk, Letitia Nichols of Norfolk and Myon Young and husband Stacey of Arizona; five brothers, Edward Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Bryon Nichols, Kenneth Nichols and his wife, Zandra, all of Norfolk, Staff Sgt. Darryl Nichols Sr. of Rockville, Md., and sister-in-law Eloise Nichols of Norfolk, and Dewitt Freeman of Bronx, N.Y.; one uncle, James Nichols of Portsmouth; and two aunts, Leola Etheridge and Josephine Cheek of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his father, Horace Nichols Sr. A funeral will be conducted at noon today in Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. James B. Williams. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. for the procession.
