Horace Francis Nichols Jr., known as "Butch" or "Nick," of the 1300 block of W. 
26th St., died Feb. 17, 2000, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth, Mr. Nichols was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and was 
disabled. He was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include his wife, E. Louise Nichols; a daughter, Nakeesha Leonard; three 
sons, Darrell Leonard, Brian Nichols and Kenneth Nichols; his mother, Olethia 
Nichols, all of Norfolk; five sisters, Lt. Col. Roberta Nichols-Covin of 
Hinesville, Ga., Rita Parker of Connecticut, Patricia A. Nichols and Letitia A. 
Nichols, both of Norfolk, and Myron D. Young of Arizona; six brothers, Edward 
Nichols, Anthony Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Kenneth Nichols and Byron Nichols, 
all of Norfolk, and Staff Sergeant Darryl A. Nichols Sr. of Maryland; a 
grandparent, Dewitt Freeman of New York; eight grandchildren; mother-in-law, 
Jessie M. Leonard of Norfolk; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of other relatives 
and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Horace F. Nichols Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Temple COGIC by 
Bishop Anthony Moses. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Viewing will 
be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The 
remains will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. The family will assemble at 10 a.m. 
at 1326 W. 26th St.
