A native of Carlisle, Ark., he retired in 1967 after 30 years from the U.S. Navy and later retired as a long distance truck driver from North American after two years of service. He was a member and regular attendee of Mount Hermon Church of Christ Disciples, Norfolk, where he participated in Deacon Board programs and Men's Day programs. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Nichols; a daughter, Patricia A. Browne; five sons, Timothy Nichols, Dehart H. Nichols, Dal G. Nichols, Michael E. Nichols and Waymond D. Nichols; a sister, Carrie Brooks; a brother, Lloyd Nichols; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy Nichols and Edward Nichols; and 10 brothers and sisters. A funeral will be held at noon Friday in Mount Hermon Church, 3132 Somme Ave., Norfolk, by John R. Figgs. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Viewing will be Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home.
