Edward L. Noga, U.S. Navy retired, 82, of the 100 block of Lafayette Ave., died Dec. 16, 2003, in his residence. He was a native of New Castle, Pa., and a resident of Norfolk for over 40 years. He was the son of the late Joseph and Stella Lapczynski Noga and was the widower of Margaret Bruns Noga. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice; two brothers, Frank and Raymond "Sharkey"; and his grandson, Christopher Toombs. He graduated from Alliance College, the Naval War College and attended the University of Notre Dame. Cmdr. Noga was a World War II and Korea veteran of the United States Navy. Following his military career, he retired from Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters as its purchasing director. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 3548, The Ryan Club of Norfolk, VFW Post No. 3160, Tidewater Seniors Golf Invitational Association and the Democratic Club, American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. Survivors include nine daughters, Peggy Mullin and her husband, Carl, of Virginia Beach, Kathy Salopek and her husband, Greg, Mary Potunas, Patti Davis, Terri Cowan, and Jean Noga, all of Norfolk, Susan Bawtinhimer of Winter Park, Fla., Sharon Harrell and her husband, Seymour, of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Carolyn Newbern of Norfolk; two sons, Edward L. Noga Jr. and his wife, Maryland, and John P. Noga and his wife, Jane, all of Virginia Beach; one sister, Helen Noga; a brother, John Noga and his wife, Mickey; a sister-in-law, Wanda Noga, all of New Castle, Pa.; and many grandchildren and children treated as such, nieces, nephews and dear friends. The Rev. David McGuire will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church today from 6 to 6:45 p.m. The rosary will be recited by the family at 6:45 p.m. and the Christian wake will be at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, The Knights of Columbus or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
