Lee Norman Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA, died peacefully on Sunday, July 29, after suffering a long illness. Lee was born in Norfolk, VA, on September 6, 1936, to the late W. Lee Norman Sr. and Marguerite C. Norman. Survivors include two children, Lea Carter of Moyock, N.C. and Joseph M. Norman of Clayton, N.C., four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister, Shirley N. Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA, and a long-time special friend, Jeanne White, of Virginia Beach, VA. Lee was a fishing enthusiast, but sailing was his passion most of his life. He was also a great cook who enjoyed preparing fabulous meals for family and friends. As a young man working as an insurance salesman for just a short time, he was quickly promoted to manager. The company soon discovered he was only 20 years old and he was forced to wait until turning 21 to use the title of manager. Other occupations included working as an underwater construction diver on several projects including the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel. He also worked in home remodeling until he found his favorite vocation, land development. Lee had a favorite line (author unknown), "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain". Lee will always remain very much alive in the memories of those who loved, respected, and treasured him. A Catholic funeral service will be held in the Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, VA, on Friday, August 3, at 12:00p.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at 10:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered in Lee's memory to a children's charity of choice such as St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Boys Town. Helping children in need was a very private concern.
