The Norfolk Virginian Pilot September 4, 1936


Mrs. Kate Thomas Northern, aged 72 years, widow of Claude W. Northern, and 
daughter of the late Samuel J. and Fanny Smith Thomas, a native of Eastern 
Shore, and for the past 65 years a resident of Norfolk, died at 8:16 o’clock 
Thursday morning at the residence, 902 Colonial Avenue. She is survived by one 
son, Samuel T. Northern, and two granddaughters, Misses Dorothy M., and 
Katharine T. Northern. Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow 
at 12 o’clock noon, with the Rev. J.L. MacMillan, D.D., pastor of the First 
Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be private in Cedar Grove 
Cemetery.
