VIRGINIA BEACH - John E. (Jack) O’Connor, 63, of 2409 Beaufort Ave., founder and 
president of St. Pius X Federal Credit Union, died Friday in his home. A native 
of Butte, Mont., he was the husband of Mrs. Gladys H. (Jackie) O’Connor.
A member of five credit unions, he was past president of the Tidewater Chapter 
of Virginia Credit Union League and its historian and Education Committee 
chairman. He was also past president of Port Norfolk Credit Union and a member 
of the American Society of Association Executives.
O’Connor, who retired from the Army Corps of Engineers as a contract specialist 
after 38 years, was editor of the Virginia Credit Union League’s newsletter, The 
Virginian.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church; past president of its Men’s Club; 
and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 367, Norfolk.
Other survivors include a son, David John O’Connor of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a 
sister, Mrs. Josephine Avery of Portland, Ore.; and a brother, Thomas B. 
O’Connor of Miles City, Mont.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in Hollomon-
Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel.
