He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean. He is survived by three children, Jack Ogert, Jerry Ogert and wife, Amber, all of Chesapeake, Va., Jo Ann Meggison of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was retired as a Boatswain Mate Chief after 33 years of service in the U. S. Navy and a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a longtime resident of Elizabeth City, N.C. JohnÕs life will be celebrated in a service conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, at Temple Baptist Church located at 1322 George Washington Highway North, Chesapeake, Va., followed by interment in the St. MaryÕs Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, June 14, at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Va.
